Fiesta bowl parade features Disney star
The Fiesta Bowl Parade is this weekend and the floats are in town, assembled, ready to go. 12 News got to speak with the float builder, Robert Kelsey with Charisma Floats. Kelsey says there are 6 floats this year, 2 self pro-pelling, 4 that are towed.
The floats take about a month and a half to design and build, then they are driven from Southern California to a Phoenix warehouse and assembled for several weeks before the big day. Once it’s over, the parts are often used again for later dates. It’s recycling and cheaper for customers. The most expensive float this year rang in at $20,000.
This years Honorary Grand Marshal is Chelsea Staub. The former Scottsdale resident (Saguaro High School student) and current Disney star grew up watching the parade. Even tried to go to it as a child but could hardly find a seat. Today she’s excited to come full circle. Staub currently works on the Disney show, "JONAS," starring the ever popular Jonas brothers. She moved out to Los Angeles when she was 15 years old and worked hard for years. For little girls who want to follow in her foot steps her advice is simple: do community theatre. Specifically, for children in Arizona, Valley Youth Theatre is the place. She was actually discovered by a manager there and shortly after moved her life to L-A with her mom. She says people in Hollywood often scout performers from VYT, it’s known.
The 39th Annual Fort McDowell Fiesta Bowl Parade is Saturday, January 2nd at 11:00 am in Central Phoenix. The parade is free or reserved seating is available for $25 by calling 480-350-0911 or checking out www.fiestabowl.org.
